Devon loves Fina
Dupa. "I have two when I can!" Devon, a Colorado native, has
been playing guitar in Denver since age fifteen. He has logged over three
thousand hours of gigs since graduating from the University of Colorado in
1996. His most recent work includes a five-year long elephant ride with
the fabulous 'Buckner Funken Jazz' as well as producing the group, 'Air
Tight Experiment,' whose radio airplay has charted nationally in the CMJ
for the past two summers.
Whether its the Fox Theatre, Breck Jazz Fest, Herman's Hideaway or Red
Rocks, Devon has seen the Dupa. If you ask him whether he has paid his
dues, inevitably he replies, "the check is in the mail."
He grew up jamming to Zeppelin and still does; he just listens to more
Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis now, "And don't forget the killer
Marley bootlegs." A rock guitarist at heart, Devon has blended
straight-ahead jazz, funk, soul, reggae and hip-hop into a concoction that
will make your ears cream. His guitar style is reminiscent of John
McLaughlin, Jimmy Herring, and Mike Stern - he has the ability to check
out your mind from time to time - "gotta have the Dupa!" |
